NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint Review

NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint

I waited a long time for the NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint to launch in Dubai and I was at my local Sephora the first day it came out! I’ve been using it for over a month and here are my thoughts on it…

I have to say that it’s name is a bit misleading – it’s not the greatest at oil control, I still have to blot a couple of times a day. It also settles in pores around the nose. HOWEVER, I fell in love with how long it lasts on my face in general!  I find that my complexion still looks unified and my blush is still where I placed it more than 10 hours earlier -UNBLOTCHED, I might add! I would describe the Velvet Matte Skin Tint as having medium coverage. I don’t like to build it more, summer days in Dubai require the LEAST amount of product, not layers and layers…

I have a problem with the product’s shade selection – I was initially matched to Light 3 Groenland which I later realized was a shade lighter than my skin, and of a pinky tone. I then purchased Medium 1 St Moritz, which turned out to be darker than my skin, and more yellow. The solution? Mixing the two shades together to create my very own. I find that adding more of the St Moritz to the custom blend gives me a “closer” match. It’s not as accurate as I would like it to be, but I can get away with wearing it…

The verdict? I think this is a wonderful base to use in summer for people with combination to oily skin (I’m sure it will work even better for normal skin!)…and if the shade selection isn’t satisfying, just custom-blend!

  1. Great review! I was in Sephora the other day and thinking of getting this product but wasn’t sure. You have convinced me:) I hope I am able to find the right shade cause I don’t think I can afford to get two haha!

  2. I totally agree with you, I thought it lasted overall but my T zone still got oily. Plus I was matched to a shade way too dark for me. I gave it away in the end, I’ve had better and cheaper alternatives.
