You’ve probably heard (or read!) it a billion times before: primers are what give you a smooth canvas to base your makeup on and help it stay where it’s supposed to be all day long. But is that really the case? A lot of makeup artists skip primers all together and rely instead on good skincare products and makeup techniques to keep the makeup looking fresh for longer.
With all the primers out there in the market, it’s definitely tempting to try out a few, and that’s certainly what I’ve done over the past couple of years. The verdict after all the experimentation? Yes, some primers have the ability to improve the longevity of makeup, but they break me out big time. That alone is a deal breaker for me. I spend a lot of time and money trying to perfect my skin to consciously allow pimples to creep up by using primers. That said, being the beauty junkie that I am, I will continue testing new primers that sound promising until I hopefully find one that doesn’t break me out. In the meantime, I will be sharing some tips for extending the wear of foundation soon.
*Note: Although I have sensitive skin and eyes, eye primer does not break me out and is a must for my oily eyelids.
